Who makes the will of God his only rule

And he said to them, “FOLLOW ME” —Matthew 4: 19

Here we confront two mutually exclusive, diametrically opposed if-then statements, each claiming to be true. The first is from the enemy and goes like this: if we chase created things—wealth, status, sex, power —then our lives will be more full, and we’ll have more peace, joy security, freedom, fulfillment, significance. The second is from God: if we chase Him, our Creator—if we listen to Him, if we surrender, if we love, if we serve— then our lives will be more full, we’ll have more peace, joy, security, serenity, freedom, fulfillment, significance.

The simple question before us, therefore, is which statement will we believe and adopt and follow in faith. But, before we can answer, we’ve got to get serious. We’ve got to stop playing around, trying to convince ourselves the statements are not actually mutually exclusive and not actually diametrically opposed. We’ve got to stop trying to convince ourselves we can believe both statements at once, that we can prioritize both created things and the Creator—and that it’ll be okay if we try. We can’t and IT’S NOT.

“No one can serve two masters. for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other ” Matthew 6: 24

We must Choose. And, it’s a real choice between good and evil. So I say again—Who makes the will of God his only rule.
“Teach me your way, O Lord, I will walk in your truth…” Psalm 86:11

Answer the Call

As followers of Jesus Christ we are called to be His witness, as we are going in our daily lives, within the area of influence God has assigned to us. That area of influence (2 Cor. 10:13) represents the Personal Mission Field to which GOD has sent us…YOU.

“Lord, help us identify the people in our sphere of influence.” I believe in each of these areas, God is calling us to live out the Bible teaching concerning true goodness, excellence, beauty, and truth of the Kingdom of God. In addition, in each of these areas, you are involved in relationships with people who need to know the love of Christ. We are alive to a “sober life and doing the next right things” – following steps (spiritual truths) that make it clear that God is sending us to live and proclaim in word and by example and we have a new Lord and Master. We have turned our lives over to Him!

Our Scriptural Call:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8

“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matt. 28: 18-20

“But we will not boast beyond limits, but will boast only with regard to the area of influence God has assigned to us, to reach even to you. For we are not overextending ourselves, as though we did not reach you. For we were the first to come all the way to you with the gospel of Christ. We do not boast beyond limit in the labors of others. But our hope is that as your faith increases, our area of influence among you may be greatly enlarged, so that we may preach the gospel in lands beyond you, without boasting of work already done in another’s area of influence. “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord. For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.” 2 Corinthians 10: 13 – 18

“Lord, help me learn your ways. Show me how you want to live. Guide me and teach me your truths. You are my God, my Savior. You are the one I have been waiting for.” Psalms 25:4-5
